Condoleances

It is with great sadness to inform our membership and friends of Staines RFC that our past 1st XV Captain and Vice President, Ron Pettifor, suddenly passed away at his home on Monday 30th July 2018.

Ron had joined the Club in the early 1960’s and played for the Cygnets whilst still attending school at Sunbury Grammar. He continued his rugby career at Staines and became 1st XV Captain in the early 1970’s. In one season he was the leading trying scorer with 34 tries.
He was in the 7’s team that won their way through to the Middlesex 7’s Finals at Twickenham.
After retiring from playing, he was a coach to the Cygnets, helped out on the pitch maintenance.
Ron played an instrumental lead role in getting the new club house built and was Team Secretary for a number of years. He was also a volunteer with the Middlesex County, being the secretary on the West Group Committee and Facilities and Funding Coordinator.
His quest to become Chairman of the Club unfortunately met with opposition from minority faction within the Club, and sadly Ron left the Club. A great loss as long serving stalwart of the club.

From Rugby he took on his other love - Golf and was a middle handicap player.

After leaving school he attended the Hammersmith College of Art & Building to study Building Surveying and he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor. He worked for many years at the London Borough of Hounslow and as Chief Surveyor for The Post Office.

Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Kathy and his Children Stephen & Sarah and David & Emma.
