Staines Rugby announce appointment of Nic Evans as New Chief Rugby Officer

By Jorrit Schrauwers

Welsh Rugby International Joins Staines team

Staines Rugby are proud to annouce the appointment of Nic Evans as our Chief Rugby Officer, we asked Chairman Stephen Leach and Nic Evans herself about the appointment. Mr Leach stated:

‘We are tremendously lucky to be able to welcome Nic to Staines as our NEW Chief Rugby Officer. This is a NEW role at the club and a NEW way of approaching our Coach and Player Education.
The main remit for Nic for her time with us at Staines is to Develop a robust Coach education and player pathway experience. She will also work in conjunction with our Rugby Managers and coaches to develop the “Staines Way” of playing - this will be unique to Staines Rugby and will run all the way through the club, making the steps from mini to Youth to Senior much smoother for our players as they progress through the club.’

Some words from Nic herself:

‘I moved to London to play rugby for Wasps and enjoyed 9 years playing Premiership rugby, in that time I was fortunate enough to represent Wales, singing my national anthem at the Six Nations was probably one of my proudest moments of rugby.

I am currently a lecturer at St.Mary’s University specialising in social issues in sport, holistic approaches to sports coaching. I thoroughly enjoy mentoring young adults towards their future career. I moved to Higher Education from a career in teaching, and still love being on the sports pitches watching young people express themselves through physical activity and sport.

I have coached netball, hockey and athletics at school and have concentrated on my rugby coaching career in my spare time. My last role was Director of Rugby at Kings Cross Steelers, the only female DoR in the whole of Essex, which always raised an eyebrow!

I am excited to be working alongside Staines RFC, you have an amazing community of volunteers working hard to ensure the club reaches its’ potential and I hope to support all areas of the rugby, all sections of the club to come together to make this club a truly successful club both on and off the pitch. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and working together.’

I hope you all join us in welcoming Nic to the club and do say hello and introduce yourself when you see her
